If you think that people’s tastes have changed since Beth’s Café opened in 1954 near Green Lake, then you may be surprised by the line of people outside of this Seattle icon, even on a Sunday morning. A greasy spoon in the best sense of the word, Beth’s is a true temple to blue collar workers’ food – massive plates with delicious, homemade comfort food. The place is basic – no frills, no unnecessary decor – but the biscuits, breads, muffins, and corned beef hash are made in-house and the portions are so huge that you have to come really hungry or work in construction. Their famous 12-egg omelets are served in a pizza pan and the coffee keeps coming without you asking for it. It is great place to come after a night on the town, hangover or not, they are open 24 hours a day.

North Star Diner is a popular Greenwood restaurant that serves homemade comfort food 24 hours a day. The large menu serves breakfast and lunch all day and has all the usual options, from pancakes to eggs Benedict. In spite of the name, do not expect any dim sum. The place is spacious and cozy and it spills into the next door bar, Shanghai Room, which offers excellent cocktails and loud karaoke five days a week. The best part of the place is a wonderful, spacious patio in the back, with colorful picnic tables and umbrellas, more there for the rain than for the sun. Both the bar and the patio offer a full menu. In addition, the patio bar has its own special drinks.
