Review of: Wyoming State Museum
Free, kid-friendly attraction–lots to see and learn about and walking distrance from the Capital
We were at the Botanical Garden and they recommended this place as it’s free. My kiddo is 7 1/2 and she really enjoyed it. Some interactive stuff. Lots to see on 2 floors about Wyoming. Fun, affordable items in the gift shop.

Review of: Cheyenne Depot Museum
The model railroad exhibit is the star
TBH – the main museum exhibit is really geared toward the railroad nerd. There’s general history to be sure and I learned quite a bit about how Cheyenne became Cheyenne – and avoided the fate of other railroad towns. But I could have also gone down a rabbit hole of highly specific train types, had I stopped to read everything. Then again, it was not crowded and you pick and choose – digested enough about the diesel electric changeover – more on to the next. The upstairs model RR is really the thing to see however. Even though there was only 1 train running while I was there, the tableaux was varied and interesting. Always appreciate these when they are well done and this one is. Walk around the town is nice too, as I’m from DC metro, and this is a very different feel. Leave yourself some time for that.

Interesting even to a city slicker
It was a little pricey, but pretty interesting. I know nothing about rodeos, but the videos brought it to life for me. All of the carriages were interesting also.

Review of: Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center
Welcome change in opening hours
On Sept. 6 we again stopped here with 15 people on the way back from Yellowstone, figuring the welcome center would be open on a Tuesday. It was and everyone was really glad we stopped as the facility is most interesting, informative and well done, a very worthwhile stop. Most important, the little sign on the entrance doors to the main area now says open every day, unlike last time when we were so disappointed that the display rooms weren’t open weekends. I change my rating from 1 to 5.

Great experience once again!
Just had our third visit to the rodeo and it was wonderful once again! We traveled from PA to attend the rodeo. We can’t wait to visit again. Such a well organized event relying on so many volunteers.

Working Ranch
This is not Disneyland, it is a working Ranch so the facilities are weathered. For a ranch is in good condition but is not pristine. Campground is a bit tight but has full hookups that work. Overall a nice place.

Review of: Curt Gowdy State Park
One of the Best State Parks in the US
Hiking is something my family does on family trips/vacations, so we decided to hike in Curt Gowdy State Park (about a 30-minute drive from Cheyenne). Having lived and traveled across the country, I can say that this is the best, most well-kept state park we’ve ever been to!We first stopped off at the Visitor’s Center to pay the park fee and pick up a map. After talking with the very friendly park receptionist there, we decided to hike the Stone Temple Loop, a 4-mile, fairly easy hike (the park rates it as moderate, but we thought it was easy). We had our two kids and three dogs with us.
This hike was beautiful! Our almost 4-year-old was easily able to walk it herself. There was so much beauty along the trail! Butterflies, small rodents, wildflowers, granite boulders…it was extraordinary! The smell of pines permeated the air, and the sun shone the entire morning.
This is a great hiking option for people who like the outdoors and who have children/dogs capable of easy-to-moderate hiking. Make sure to bring water and sunscreen, as the trails are very exposed much of the time.
My only regret: that we couldn’t spend more time here!

Must see if you are a Railroading Buff
Located in a very well maintained public park. GPS directions for the park area somewhat confusing but there is minimal traffic on the side streets so it is easy to find after you get into the general area and park within the park.

Review of: Cheyenne Botanic Gardens
Surprisingly Good Garden in a Small City
We had some time to kill after hiking all morning, so we decided to visit the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. This free botanic garden is also kid-friendly and provides both indoor and outdoor gardens. The lady staffing the front desk was very friendly and gave us a great overview of the exhibits across campus.Inside, there were two main gardens – a tropical plants exhibit and a desert plants exhibit. Both were small, but very well-maintained. The tropical plans exhibit has an upper deck, which provided a great overview of all the plants maintained there. Outdoors, lots of plant varieties flourished across the campus. Our kids loved the children’s area, which had a tipi, play tables, and other things for kids to explore.
We had a great visit! We would have stayed longer and explored the grounds more had it not been for the rain!

Coolest way to see and experience the city!
We loved getting to explore and try to find all the boots and mark them off as we went. We went out around sunset and it was the nearest experience that took us around the city and showed us tons of new places and parks. Would recommend to anybody visiting Cheyenne!

Review of: Historic Governors’ Mansion
Almost 100% accessible for view, loved that
Self tour of pretty much every single room in the place – 3 floors and basement. In many ways my favorite kind of tour – just wander through – if you have questions, ask. Docent was eager to talk – about the house or just life in Wyoming 🙂 Lots of period objects, with decent explanation of why/how the rooms were decorated in period (varies, depending on the room). Think of this as an enjoyable slice of life experience, a step back in time, where real people lived – upper middle class maybe, but not too different from you and me. Thoroughly pleasant, above expectations and best of all FREE 🙂

Nice Outside Area
We only drove around to see the Plaza. It was late so there was nothing going on and we didn’t even see people walking around. On a nice summer evening it’s probably nice to stroll around there.

Review of: Warren Air Force Base
The museum was the highlight of our trip to Cheyenne!
This museum on the base was the highlight of our trip! We were fortunate to talk to a volunteer who made our visit so excellent. He added so much to our visit! (He said he is no longer a volunteer, but he helped out and wow – was he ever impressive!) We already had such a great respect and gratefullness toward our military and all they do to protect our freedoms, but this museum only increased our appreciation and respect for them. Thanks to those serving at the F.E.Warren Air Force Base for all you do for each of us! (Be sure you call the base 48 hours ahead of when you want to visit so that you may receive clearance to go on the base. Just do a google search for the museum and it will give you the number to call.)

Capitol Idea!
The Wyoming State Capitol Building is not as impressive as some, but still hold allure. The grounds are lovely, and I would guess it is never that crowded to visit. (It wasn’t when we were there.) Plenty of parking available. Be sure to see the Governor’s Mansion ((several blocks away) too!
