Unfortunately, mattresses cannot be donated to Goodwill. Although Goodwill would love to accept all donations, some items cannot be accepted for health and safety reasons. Bedroom furniture that cannot be accepted includes mattresses, pillows, bed frames, bunk beds, hide-a-beds and waterbeds.

No doubt, there are a number of items in these categories that are suitable for reuse. However, these items may sometimes pose a threat to the safety and health of our staff or new owners. To ensure the safety of all, we cannot accept them.

Goodwill Alberta requests that anyone having a used bed or bed frame look for an alternate destination for it.

Christmas decorations and other holiday items can be donated to Goodwill in Alberta. This includes household holiday decor, Christmas lights and Christmas trees. However, please note that Christmas trees will only be accepted if they are in their original box or bag. All items should be in good condition when they are brought to a donation center.

Our trained and experienced staff is able to accept, process, and make items available for sale in our stores within 24 hours. If you have mistakenly donated an item, the sooner you let us know increases your chances of recovering it. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to help you locate your item.

Goodwill has partnered with College Hunks HaulingAnswer: Goodwill’s Edmonton Donation Centre is here to help donors in the greater Edmonton area who are unable to come to our donation centre themselves. We make it easy for you to donate, by providing a convenient pick-up service. No matter the size of your donation, our team is here to collect it and ensure it reaches its destination. This 48-hour priority service comes with a fee, but it should be especially beneficial for those involved in major clean-ups. Our hauling partner will take your donations to Goodwill, but they will also clear out any items that Goodwill is unable to accept and take them to a nonprofit or a recycler. College Hunks Hauling will come to your property and pick up items from anywhere.

Goodwill can provide tax receipts for donations with a fair market value of $200 or more. Our donor attendants are able to manage this process. When donating, you will need to list the item(s) and their value, which will then be sent to the Finance department. Once processed, a tax receipt will be mailed out. To ensure your items are valued correctly, please bring a proof of value such as an online sale posting.

The generous donations from Albertans are sold in our stores, and the revenue generated from these sales is used to support our mission of connecting Albertans with disabilities to employment. We request all donations of clothing or household goods be in good condition and clean (i.e. no rips or stains).
