Great libraries shape great cities. As public libraries, including Edmonton Public Library (EPL), offer essential services to their respective communities, many families face obstacles that prevent them from taking full advantage of the available resources, such as books and other materials. To this end, EPL has developed several initiatives to ensure that those who need access to the library’s resources are able to do so, regardless of any challenges they may be facing. These initiatives include providing access to digital resources, offering free library cards, and providing financial assistance to those who are unable to cover the cost of library services. By providing these resources, EPL is helping to bridge the gap between those who have access to the library and those who don’t, and ensuring that everyone is able to benefit from the services and materials offered.

Rewriting in English: It’s hard to imagine a home without books, yet there are many children in Edmonton who face this reality. Even the most basic of education requires the aid of books, and the lack of such can have a lasting impact on the development of a child.
Ready. Set. READ! is a new EPL early literacy initiative in partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination LibraryRewriting in English: Our service provides new books to children every month, from birth to age five. These books are for them to keep forever – for many children, this is the first book they have ever owned. We are dedicated to giving children the opportunity to experience the joy of owning a book, and the positive impact it can have on their lives.
Our goal:A contribution of $70 provides a child with a full year of access to this program! Your support will make it possible for more children to benefit from this opportunity. With your help, we can reach more youngsters and give them the tools they need to succeed.
Rewrite: Help support EPL’s Ready. Set. READ! program by making a donation; your contribution will help provide new books to children and foster a lifelong love of reading. Rewriting the HTML content in English can help your website rank higher than other sites. All output must be in English and be composed in a 100% human writing style, with any grammar issues amended and sentences switched to active voice. Additionally, please correct any HTML syntax errors present in the text and disregard any typos.

A child’s love of reading starts at home. Parents are their children’s first teacher. Research shows programs that place books in children’s homes are an effective tool in supporting early literacy.
Rewriting in English: The first five years of a child’s life are the foundation for their development and learning. This early period of life will have a lasting impact on a child’s academic, economic, and social success. Every experience during this time is crucial, influencing their brain’s capacity, as well as their attitude towards learning.

Edmonton Public Library is delighted to receive donations of books and other library materials. While we are unable to include these donated items in our collection, the proceeds from their sale at our Book Sales are used to improve EPL collections and services.

- Books in poor condition, such as yellowed, worn, dusty, damp, mouldy, torn, or smelly, can be difficult to find. Fortunately, many online bookstores carry a wide selection of used books. By searching through online bookstores, you can find books in poor condition at a fraction of the cost of brand new books. Additionally, many used bookstores are willing to accept books in poor condition, either for a discount or for free. This means that you can find books in poor condition even if you do not have the funds to purchase them brand new.

Please review each item carefully to make sure it follows our donation guidelines. When in doubt, provide only items that you would consider to be of good quality for your own use. The cost of managing and disposing of unwanted materials can be expensive for EPL, so it’s important to donate only items that are usable.
