This holiday season, the hearts of Dr. Seuss enthusiasts may swell with joy when the sequel to the beloved 1957 children’s book, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”, is released.

Random House Children’s Books and Dr. Seuss Enterprises have announced a new book that continues the story one year after the original. Both works impart a meaningful message about the significance of the holiday.

The follow-up work entitled “How the Grinch Lost Christmas!” is not based on a recently found document by Seuss – whose true name was Theodor Geisel – yet was composed and represented by a writer and artist with past experience in the world of Dr. Seuss.

Many Seuss fans of all ages often wonder what became of the Grinch after he attempted to steal Christmas. Alice Jonaitis, executive editor at Random House Children’s Books, commented on this in a statement.

Nearly 10 million copies of the original Grinch book have been sold in North America and translated into a variety of languages. It has also been adapted into three different productions: a 1966 animated TV special narrated by Boris Karloff, a 2000 live-action movie starring Jim Carrey, and a 2018 computer-animated film featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of the Grinch.

Alastair Heim, the author of works such as “If I Ran Your School” and “I Am the Cat in the Hat”, has a new book coming out on September 5th. This book will feature illustrations by Aristides Ruiz, an experienced illustrator who has been working on the Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library books for more than twenty years.

Heim expressed his disbelief in an email, stating that he was in disbelief while writing the story that he was allowed to work in the creative world created by Dr. Seuss many years ago.

Ruiz expressed excitement at the prospect of working on the Grinch sequel, saying it was a great honor and responsibility.

When I got wind of the possibility of joining this project, I was excited and immediately accepted. However, I quickly realized that tackling the extension and augmentation of a valued and beloved piece of the American Christmas culture would be a challenging endeavor.

The Grinch attempts to spoil Christmas for the citizens of Who-ville by stealing away all the materialistic possessions and delicious food associated with the holiday during the night.

On Christmas morning, the Whos come together to sing joyously and the Grinch finally understands that Christmas is not about presents, treats or eating; it is about spending time with family and friends. This is when, as Dr. Seuss wrote, the Grinch’s “heart grew three sizes that day.”

In the follow-up, the Grinch intends to demonstrate his fondness for the holiday by taking Who-ville’s Christmas Crown with the most striking Christmas tree ever, as per Dr. Seuss Enterprises.

When his plan does not go as intended, the Grinch reverts to his typical, unkind self, until his friend Cindy-Lou Who reminds him that Christmas is not about competition.

Geisel, who died in 1991 at age 87, authored dozens of books, including “Green Eggs and Ham” and “The Cat in the Hat.”

Recently, certain pieces of Dr. Seuss’ work have been subject to criticism due to the presence of racist imagery, which prompted Dr. Seuss Enterprises to cease the publication of six books, amongst them “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” and “If I Ran the Zoo”, in 2021.

The legacy of the deceased celebrity continues to have an impact as Forbes magazine named him eighth on a 2022 list of the highest-paid dead celebrities, with total earnings of $32 million.
