I was moved to tears before the introduction even concluded! This honest and impactful book certainly left an impression on me. With its emotive and truthful content, it’s no wonder why I was so deeply affected. The writing was so powerful and resonant that I was almost brought to tears.
If you are like me and have been struggling with unhealthy cycles caused by your past, this book will help you feel acknowledged and provide you with encouragement to continue. Even if you don’t yet know what exactly you are doing, you must keep pushing forward. With this book, you can have the confidence to try again.
I have personally experienced the power of healing through EMDR and Somatic Experiencing. I find the combination of theology and therapy to be incredibly powerful, and this book is a wonderful example of how to bring them both together. In it, the author shares her own story and those of her clients, providing an intimate look at the healing process. By correcting typos, fixing HTML syntax, and changing the structure of the text to active voice, I have improved the readability of this passage.
Trauma can cause us to have a distorted view of ourselves, our world, and the God who created us. We often form patterns of behavior that are both protective and destructive, such as hiding our feelings and only interacting with people when we’re in a good mood. It can be difficult to let go of these habits, and it’s easy to resort to busyness that keeps us from recognizing the condition of our hearts.
This book is an incredibly powerful read, albeit short. The author writes in a style that is both personal and professional, making it incredibly easy to relate to. I was so inspired by the book that I bookmarked numerous pages to refer back to for inspiration and wisdom whenever I need it.

Kobe provides readers with the resources and knowledge necessary to start their journey of healing. In her work, she pays homage to her background by including Ghanaian names throughout. This is a subtle yet powerful way to dismantle yet another obstacle that can prevent someone from seeking help.
We must ask ourselves, “In what circumstances have I been conditioned to respond in this manner?” By examining the situations that lead up to our response, we can gain insight into our reactions and gain clarity on why we behave the way we do.
