Quick view

In the book, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the whole utopia is taken over by a mass media where books are burnt if caught in your possession, they focused on entertainment, and violence is no big deal. When I think about the overall book, the world, censorship comes to mind. Everyone seems to be very obsessed with media because books are now not there to be able to entertain and give knowledge. Without knowledge, that whole utopia is madness. Fahrenheit 451 takes place in a future society where they ban possession of books and reading and the job of firemen is to burn all books from people’s homes using the temperature of 451; the temperature that papers burn. After meeting a girl whom loves books, a fireman, Guy Motang, begins/em>In this society, books are considered evil because they make people question and think hence why firemen are there to burn books. Another reason why books are banned is because minority groups were offended by certain types of literature. As days went on, more and more people were getting offended so more and more books were being taken off shelves. Eventually, someone decided to have all books banned since they would be left with none either way. One last reason why banning books were decided is because the lack of knowledge enhanced from books enables ignorance and ignorance creates people who are easier to control than people with knowledge. Also, people stopped reading books gradually over time as the culture around them grew faster and shallower. For this reason, people with interests outside of technology and entertainment are viewed as strange to/em>Clarisse mentioned to Montag that she was afraid of kids her age because they go out and kill people like it’s normal. She said six of her friends had been shot in the last year alone while ten of them died in car wrecks. On top of that, Clarisse herself was killed by a hit and run. This shows how lenient they could be about the law but for things that should not be lenient at all. The lenient law shows that unhappiness and fear is what they strive for in society. Besides that, firemen were able to burn people along with their books and house. For our society, firemen don’t cause the burning, they usually put out fires but firemen in this society makes the fire and intentionally harm people who refuse to light their books on fire. Once again, this shows that the society can be way too lenient. Furthermore, lots of people tend to die wether it is on accident or purpose. For example, The old woman burns herself to death, Clarisse dies from a hit and run, Montag killed Beatty with the flamethrower, Mechanical Dog killed an innocent person, etc. Also, Mildred attempted suicide using her sleeping pills yet no one ever seemed to have much of a care about it. Clearly, death for them was an everyday thing so it wasn’t anything to grieve or be upset over. All in all, Fahrenheit 452 shows a theme of censorship where the whole utopia is taken over by a mass media where books are burnt if
